The original single story residence was built in the 1940's. While it featured large living and dining rooms, the two bedrooms, kitchen and bathroom were quite small and the built-in amenities were more utilitarian than thoughtfully designed. The owners wanted to transform the home into one that would easily provide for a family with children and grandchildren who visit periodically.
Navigating a difficult regulatory approvals process was challenging and rewarding. The resulting design successfully amplifies the Prairie style antecedents of the original home, while also acknowledging the contribution of Craftsman building details. Fitting comfortably with its neighborhood, the new home has made a significant contribution to this elegant street in Burlingame.
