This graceful Colonial Revival home featured almost everything a modern family could want when it was originally constructed in the 1940’s. With the recently remodeled kitchen, the only thing still lacking was a proper Master Suite. Since the house sat on a corner lot, ground floor expansion was very limited, so in order to gain the needed space, a second story solution was sought. As the program evolved, the Master Suite grew to include a small office for Mom and Dad and a modest roof deck with views of the Bay.
Great care was taken to preserve and enhance the original detail and proportion of the home. The addition was set partially into the existing roofline to minimize the mass of the structure, gable dormers were designed at the front to reinforce the classical porch structure and all the exterior materials and trims were selected to match.
The Owners were also very interested in making their remodel “green”. All new selected finishes were either low or Zero emissive, recycled materials were preferred, a sizable solar panel array was added and low water usage landscaping replaced the old green grass in front.
