The present owners of this historic residence had dreamed of living here for many years before the fantasy became reality. Built in 1910 on land of one of the first sub-divisions of the old Spanish rancho, this Tudor style home shows the influence of Craftsman detail throughout the interior and exterior. Graciously proportioned rooms provided elegant living space for its owners for nearly a century before major renovations were contemplated.
As part of the Dickens House project (www.dickenshouse.org),
talented interior designers collaborated with the owners to renovate
the home while maintaining – and in some cases enhancing -
its original character. 2M Architecture was privileged
to provide architectural design guidance and overall project management
for the owners on this very complex renovation.
Primary building systems (heating, electrical & plumbing) were
completely replaced. New interior features were added, including electronic
lighting controls and integrated home audio. Former “servant” areas
of the home were transformed to support the sensibilities of a modern
family. Finish materials throughout the home were replaced or refurbished
to create a cohesive interior decor.
Exterior details were refurbished to create a cohesive architectural
presence, including the replacement of a poorly designed terrace canopy
and the design of a “carriage house” garage at the rear
of the property (future).
