After living for years with a cramped kitchen, a small, view-starved dining room and a sense of badly wasted space, the owners of this Redwood City home were ready for a complete transformation. The living room, kitchen & dining room, including the pantry and WC were all completely replaced. The opportunity to create a roof deck on the sunny rear portion of the house was too good to pass by.
The existing living room had a flat ceiling, making the room feel too low for its size. To create a much more spacious living area, the existing roof ridge was re-engineered and extended allowing the interior to gain some much-needed height. Valuable outdoor space was added to this second floor living area by removing the sloped roof from the single story below, creating a roof deck that extended the dining and living areas into the rear garden.
A new custom kitchen and pantry provides the owners with a practical and beautiful backdrop for their family's life. Careful attention to detail - including hand selecting stone slab counters and customizing cabinetry features - ensures the right fit between the building and the owner's needs.
