The program for this project included a completely new kitchen, powder room, master bathroom and dressing room, as well as the complete refurbishment of all the interior finishes in this two-story Victorian-era home. The design solutions focused on modernizing the use and function of spaces while blending that modernity into the existing architectural details of the home. Door and window casings were refurbished and all plaster wall surfaces refinished and painted. Italian specialty plaster was added in the powder room. The brick fireplace was stripped of its painted surface to expose the natural brick beneath. Custom cabinetry in the kitchen, master bath & dressing room and natural stone highlights complete this graceful suite of spaces.
The owners also wanted to expand the existing 1-car garage to 2-car capacity on this small lot, which would have resulted in the reduction of usable outdoor space in the rear yard. The architectural solution was to add a roof deck above the garage, recapturing the desired outdoor gathering space.
